Out of all the days, this day had to be the one that the storm clouds decide to roll over the town. It was Eleanor's wedding day which, to a small town like Linchfield, was the only real festive event of the season. Eleanor was resting her shoulder against the window frame, watching the turnout dart to and fro, saving food, banners, and other forms of decor from the slowly encroaching rain.
Loud voices and murmurs gathered behind the door behind her, building up rapidly before all the sound exploded into the room as her soon to be mother–in-law opened the door. Her hands flailing around and her face pinched with a bitter expression, she waved off the bridesmaids and slammed the door behind her.
"They act like nothing interesting has ever happened here," she remarked, thumb pointing at the maids waiting on the other side of the room.
"And is that entirely false?" Eleanor sighed as she accepted an embrace from the woman.
"Well, of course! Just nothing to be happy about!"
